The imposing Old Castle looms over the town. From the terrace of the New Castle there is a view over the lake and the Säntis mountains. The Burg above the lake is said to be Germany's oldest residential castle, dating back to the 7th Century A.D. (Meersburg also has a Baroque "New Castle" where the prince-bishops of Konstanz lived and ruled in the 18th Century.)
Meersburg is a split-level resort: The lakeside Lower Town is home to the boat and ferry landings, a lakefront promenade, hotels, restaurants, bars, and sporting activities; and the Upper Town is a hillside cluster of historic buildings, museums, galleries, cafés, shops, and vineyards. Radolfzell - Mettnu tower
The Mettnau Tower is an 18-meter wooden lookout tower on the Mettnau Peninsula. From there you can see the Bodensee parts Markelfinger Winkel in the north, the Zeller See, Gnadensee and the Untersee in the south. In addition to the view of the Lake Constance landscape, the tower also allows a panoramic view of Hegau, the island of Reichenau and Switzerland with the Thurgau Seerücken, the Swiss Alps and the Säntis in good weather. The Mettnau Nature Reserve is accessible all year round until the Mettnau Tower. The path to the tip of the peninsula is generally open for walkers from 31 August to 15 April. The period varies depending on the breeding season of the birds. If it rains in the days before your planned outing, we recommend rubber boots or similar, water and mud resistant shoes. Auto & Traktormuseum BodenseeMonday - Sunday: 09.30 to 17.30The museum is located in a small hamlet between Uberlingen & Friedrichshafen with a view over Lake Constance. The Traktormuseum Bodensee provides the opportunity to go on a journey back in time through country life over the past 100 years. Here you can see the first attempts at motorisation in agriculture and all aspects of development in the pre- and post-war periods, illustrated by tractors from all countries and continents.
The exhibition shows not only tractors in a historical setting, but also all the various aspects of a village community - Many old workshops such as the clog maker's, smith's or cooper's, a school, a toy shop and lots of technical implements which, through the decades, made daily life easier. Zeppelin Museum FriedrichshafenThe permanent exhibition vividly illustrates, for example, the “lighter than air” principle of flight and makes it tangible through experimentation stations. The triumphant history of the Zeppelin Group and its pioneers demonstrates how technical innovation emerges and how the cult surrounding the zeppelin has been celebrated for over century.
In its 4000 square meter exhibition space, the Zeppelin Museum presents the world’s largest collection of airship aviation material as a multi-media narrative of a living history of brave people, technical innovation and peak performance. A highlight of the museum is the partial reconstruction of the Hindenburg. Visitors can climb a boarding ladder onto LZ 129 passenger ship, rebuilt according to its original dimensions and closely approximating the experience of what it would feel like to be a passenger on this innovative, luxury airliner. The Zeppelin Museum is situated on the shore of Lake Constance, at Friedrichshafen Harbour. The striking white building of the former harbour railway station with its tower on the lakeside and extensive glass façade facing the city is easy to spot. Special Exhibition: THE OBLIGATION OF OWNERSHIP: AN ART COLLECTION UNDER SCRUTINY May, 04. 2018 - February, 03. 2019 Is this looted art? For years museums have been asking themselves this critical question in view of their collections and have been digging deeper into their own history, often for the first time. Not only the discovery of masterpieces of classic modernism in Cornelius Gurlitt’s flat in 2013, but also current debates such as the one on the provenance of the ethnological exhibits at the future Humboldt forum in Berlin continue to fuel this subject. Brochure available Bregenz, AustriaBregenz is an Austrian city at the eastern end of Lake Constance (Bodensee). It is the capital of the state of Vorarlberg. The annual Bregenz Festival is a major event, with opera and music performances at the lakeside floating stage known as the Seebühne and the glass-front Festspielhaus. The baroque St. Martin’s Tower is topped by a huge wooden dome. It houses a history museum and offers sweeping views.
Natural light streams through the etched-glass walls of the minimalist, cube-shaped Kunsthaus Bregenz, illuminating its changing contemporary art exhibitions. The modern facade of the nearby Vorarlberg museum is decorated with thousands of “flowers” molded from the bases of plastic bottles. The museum’s huge collection of artifacts traces the history of the state. Ferries and cruises depart Bregenz harbor for the “flower island” of Mainau and towns along the shores of Lake Constance. The Pfänderbahn cable car travels to the summit of Pfänder Mountain, to the east, for panoramic views of Alpine peaks and Lake Constance. Daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Adults 13 Euro RT. Regular trips are on the full and half-hour. If required, trips will be adjusted to depart every quarter hour, the cable car can transport up to 80 persons every six minutes. Apparently it is possible to take your bikes with you on the cable car. |
